My name is Marie Wheeler, a transplant of Southern California for the past 17 years. I never picked up a brush unless to paint a wall until the spring of 2003. I always looked with amazement how people could take a brush and paint and manipulate it to achieve the effect they wanted. When my son left for Iraq, I decided to take some classes to keep me busy. Little did I know I was stepping into another world of so much fun and fulfillment. In just a short time, I have met so many talented painters who are so willing to share their skills.

I started with home decor painting but have since moved onto acrylic and watercolor painting on canvas. This is by far my favorite surface to paint on. I'm now practicing oil portraits so I can paint my beautiful grandkids. If I can do this, so can you. Just take the first step and you will be thrilled as you watch yourself grow. There are local painting chapters you can become involved in that are full of talented teachers. Many teachers travel nationally and are thrilled at sharing their skills with you.
